The Kangaroo Island Racing Club is a proud country racing club, with one of the largest membership bases of any country racing club in South Australia.

The Carnival will again be broadcast live around the country on Sky Channel with two fantastic days of racing.

Record prizemoney, record nominations and the State's leading jockeys are all expected to make this the best carnival ever.

Getting there

By Air

A short 30 minute flight from Adelaide brings visitors to Kangaroo Island Airport (KGC). The airport is located 13 km from Kingscote. Airport shuttles to and from Kingscote and other locations on the Island are available.

Qantas and Rex Airlines regularly fly to Kangaroo Island.

By Ferry

SeaLink ferries operate from Cape Jervis on the mainland, to Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island, with four departures daily. Travelling time is a comfortable 45 minutes to one hour and coach connections are available between Adelaide and Cape Jervis, and Penneshaw, American River and Kingscote.

Getting around

Kangaroo Island Transfers can provide transfers for individuals and groups to anywhere on the Island.

On race days, there is a shuttle bus that runs between the Commercial Street Bus Loading Zone in Kingscote (outside The Aurora Ozone Hotel) and the race track on a regular basis.

Arthur Daw Memorial Trainer Challenge 

With prize money doubled to $10,000 for the 2024/2025 racing season on Kangaroo Island, the winner will be the trainer with the most amount of points at the end of day-3. In the event of a draw, the trainer with the most number of winners will be declared the winner of the 1st prize. In the event of a draw for 2nd and 3rd, the trainer with the maximum number of place getters will be declared the winner

The points will accumulate over the 3-days of racing as follows - 

  • 4 Points for each winner
  • 2 Points for 2nd placegetters
  • 1 Points for 3rd placegetters

*Plus a 5 point bonus will be awarded for any trainer starting horses on every day of the 3-days of Kangaroo Island racing.

  • 1ST $7,000
  • 2ND $2,000
  • 3RD $1,000

 

Free boat transport for horses, trainers and strappers 

TO QUALIFY FOR FREE TRANSPORT

  • 2 Horse floats must carry 2 horses
  • 3 Horse floats must carry 3 horses
  •  Horse trucks must carry a minimum of 4 horses

 A $200 chargeback per horse not carried will be applied to any float not meeting these conditions

Thomas Foods Jockeys Challenge

The winner will be the jockey with the most amount of points at the end of day 3. In the event of a draw the jockey with the maximum number of winners will be declared the winner

The points will accumulate over the 3 days of racing as follows - 

  • 4 Points for each winner
  • 3 Points for 2nd placegetters
  • 2 Points for 3rd placegetters
  • 1 Point for all unplaced runners
  • Placegetters will be declared the winner

Plus a 5 point bonus will be awarded for any jockey riding horses on every day of the 3 days of racing.

Thomas Foods Jockeys Challenge 2025 Prizemoney: 

  • 1ST $2,000
  • 2ND $650
  • 3RD $350

FREE SEALINK FERRY TRANSPORT FOR JOCKEYS

Free walk on ferry transport from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw and free shuttle bus to track and return to Cape Jervis on each day of racing.
