Kimba Cup Wrap Up

Celebrating their 111th year, the Kimba Racing Club held their annual Kimba Cup at the Port Lincoln Racecourse last Sunday.

Perfect Eyre Peninsula blue skies welcomed punters to the racecourse, with many making the drive down from Kimba to Port Lincoln. Bringing a true country energy to the regional center of Port Lincoln.

A fantastic atmosphere filled the racecourse with plenty of enjoyment off the track. Between races Fashion at the Races was a major highlight with three categories up for grabs.

There was fantastic action on the track from the start of the day, with Stacey Metcalfe claiming a riding double after the first three races. Nichola Yuen also claimed a win in Race 2 whilst Ben Price and Britney Wong also took out wins.

All eyes were on the Kimba Cup, with Eyre Peninsula local Rochelle Milnes looking to back up from the Port Lincoln Cup aboard I Need A Drink. It wasn’t to be as The Art Of Flying ridden by Alana Livesey came through on top and claimed the Kimba Cup. Alana Livesey backed this up by winning the final race of the day, claiming a riding double.

Prior to the Kimab Cup, the well supported Calcutta was a fantastic sight to behold. The crowd showed amazing support, creating bidding wars throughout the field. Racing.com presenters Terry McAuliffe and John Kelton also showed their support winning the bidding for a number of horses including the eventual Cup winner.

The run of Eyre Peninsula Cups comes to a close this Saturday with the Streaky Bay Cup.
