What’s On – August

A new racing season is upon us and with only one month of winter left for the year and that means more outback country cups, plus plenty of racing action during each week of August. As we start to come out of hibernation and get prepared for spring, check out what’s on this month around South Australia.

Roxby Downs Cup – Saturday 5

The most northern racing club in South Australia kicks off August with the BHP Blackwoods Roxby Downs Cup on Saturday 5 August. Located over 550kms north of Adelaide, Roxby Downs lies in the heart of the Australian Outback. The Roxby Downs Cup is pure outback racing, with a red dirt track and a fantastic community driven day off the track.

The Roxby Downs Cup is an event not to be missed! This family friendly event embraces traditional country racing and is fun for all ages, featuring activities for the kids, Fashions on the Field, Calcutta event and of course, the races themselves.

It is set to be a fantastic day of racing and action on and off the field. With a six-race card planned for the day, it will be exhilarating outback racing.

Quorn Cup – Saturday 19

The Flinders Ranges serve as a breathtaking backdrop for the Quorn Cup. The rugged mountain ranges, dramatic gorges, and vast plains create a picturesque setting that will leave visitors in awe. Nature enthusiasts can explore the region's diverse flora and fauna, hike scenic trails, or embark on a 4WD adventure to experience the outback's raw beauty.

The Quorn Cup is a testament to the town's lively atmosphere and love for racing. Held at Quorn Racecourse, the event captures the excitement of thoroughbred racing, with spectators eagerly cheering on their favourite horses. The Quorn Cup is known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture and forge connections with fellow racegoers.

What else is on…

There is plenty of action throughout August! Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club hosts two mid-week race days (2nd & 16th). Balaklava (9th) and Mount Gambier (30th) also take on mid-week racing hosting duties. Murray Bridge will host a Metro race day along with a mid-week race day later in the month (5th & 23rd).  Sunday racing features in August, Bordertown hosts a Sunday race day (13th) and Port Augusta (27th).
