Melbourne Cup to Visit Regional South Australia

Four regional South Australian communities have been selected to be part of the 2023 Melbourne Cup Tour, which will be the 21st instalment of the tour. The iconic Melbourne Cup will be visiting Balaklava, Port Augusta, Quorn and Kangaroo Island as part of the tour during July this year.

Country racing in South Australia was represented by the Quorn Jockey Club at the Launch at Flemington Race Course on Tuesday 6 June. Also in attendance was South Australian racing legend John Letts, who will once again be joining the tour as a Melbourne Cup ambassador in 2023.

The Victorian Racing Club received ninety nine applications from communities worldwide, wishing to be part of the tour, with forty one locations selected. The tour will cover all corners of the globe with it visiting Japan, France, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

Country Racing SA CEO Chris Biggs said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for country clubs to be involved in the biggest race in Australia. It is a credit to these communities that their applications were selected to be part of the tour.”

VRC Chairperson Neil Wilson emphasised at the launch, “Since its inception, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour has travelled to over 590 communities and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity and community initiatives.”

The tour will be a wonderful opportunity for regional South Australia to be on display and showcase their communities.
