Country Racing SA Remembers Dean Holland

Country Racing SA is utterly devastated by the passing of South Australian born jockey Dean Holland.

Country Racing SA Chairman, Jeff Tansell, said “Country Racing SA is deeply saddened by the news of Dean’s passing. He was a tremendous jockey and it was a privilege to see Dean’s development over the years whilst racing at Country Racing SA race meetings. I still remember his first win as an apprentice very clearly.”

“I pass on my heartfelt condolences to Lucy, their four children, and to Belinda and Darren. The Hollands have contributed so much to country racing in South Australia, especially in the south-east of the state.”

Dean Holland’s early racing experience was at Country Racing SA meets around the state. Dean claimed his first winner as an apprentice at Ceduna in 2006 and continued to develop his riding skills at country races. Dean was a gifted lightweight jockey and showed his talent across Australia including claiming two Group 1 wins, most recently at Flemington in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m).

Early in his career there were a number of wonderful memories made whilst riding at country races in South Australia, including a string of wins early in his career at Balaklava and Murray Bridge whilst an apprentice with Jon O’Connor Racing, including four wins in a row aboard Jest For Fun in April and May 2006.

A GoFundMe has been set up in support of Dean’s family, which you can donate to here.
