Perfect Blue skies and a lush, green race track greeted punters as they arrived at the Naracoorte Racecourse for the 2023 MiniJumbuck Naracoorte Cup. A bumper crowd turned out for an amazing day of racing, food, wine, fashion and friends.
There was plenty of action on and off the track with some very hard fought races resulting in very close finishes, whilst off track the action did not stop either. There were five massive Fashion at the Races categories held throughout the day and were incredibly competitive.
The crowd flowed in early ahead, excited of the prospect of an eight-race card. The early arrivals were treated to an exhilarating Race 1 which was won by a nose.
With plenty of food and drinks on offer plus children’s activities like the bouncy castle, there was something for everyone at the 2023 Naracoorte Cup.
A highlight of the day were the colourful and stylish entrants into the five different Fashion at the Races. Bright and vibrant outfits were on full display, showcasing each participant’s personality and style.
It was wonderful to see so many entrants participating in the ‘Little Miss’, ‘Little Mr’ and ‘Teen of the Day’ categories. Even though the wind picked up throughout the day, it didn’t deter a large number of entrants in the Best Millinery category, which was won by Bri Scanlon and her Wattle Range inspired piece. In the Gent of the Day category there were several different fashion ideas showcased, most notably with the appearance of a Gene Simmons from KISS inspired ensemble, who was runner-up! A vibrant and elegant lemon inspired dress and with a yellow hat complementing the style took out the title for Lady of the Day category.
In Race 7 the field was highly competitive, with twelve horses hoping to claim the 2023 MiniJumbuck Naracoorte Cup. A hard fought race across 2000 meters, the Cup was taken out by Master of Zerprise which started the race as an outsider at $41. It was an excellent result for trainers Sue & Jason Jaensch and an incredible display of riding from jockey Harry Grace.
An extremely successful day which drew people from all over the region to enjoy the racing, food, wine and fashion. It was wonderful to see the community come together to showcase why a day at the country races is a must.
The next racing meeting at Naracoorte will be held on Sunday 30th April.
