Balaklava FATR winner Q and A

With an entrant list boasting a number of previous Fashion At The Races winners, the Balakalava event was hotly contested on Cup day.

The best dressed lady was won by Anais Falzon, who won her second sash in as many entries (winning best dressed lady at Oakbank also).

Anais was kind enough to have a chat with us about the win, and how her outlook on FATR has changed since her Oakbank win earlier in the year.

Tell us about your winning outfit. What were you wearing?

I wore a Leo Lin dress, paired with Rose Piscioneri Millinery, Gucci bag, black back seamed tights, Country Road heels, and a mix of mine and my mother’s jewelery.

What process did you go through to plan and choose this ensemble?

I started with the dress, I choose to compliment the fun print through out my accessories. My millinery was constructed with a range of gorgeous black feathers to compliment the vines. I added satin ribbon to my heels and went with back seamed tights to also reflect the vines. I wore flower earrings that matched the flower in the print. This was a really fun outfit to put together!

Tell us about your makeup. What look did you choose and what key products did you use?

I always tend to go for a natural look with a nice lip colour. I love a hint of pink blush, my NARS Orgasm blush palette is always a go to.

How did you choose a hairstyle? What styling process did your locks go through?

I thought this outfit needed a neat bun, which was a great decision considering the wind Balaklava put on for us!

Why should everyone book in a day at the races this year?

It’s such a fun day, you can’t help but get drawn into the atmosphere at the races.

Being relatively new to FATR still, what advice would you provide to ladies who still may be unsure on entering?

Give it a go! Do some research on the rules of seasonal race wear attire. A great place to start is the social media page “All About The Sash.”

We asked about your style after your win at Oakbank over Easter. Have you found a style that works, or will it be based on each event you enter?

I really struggle to define my personal style. I love classic and contemporary outfits whether that’s a button up collared dress or a colour blocked suit. I love my outfit to have a unique aspect, for example, adding the satin ribbon around my heels for a point of difference.
